Our History
After devastating earthquake in 1988, many foreign humanitarian organizations offered their support and aid to Armenia and doctors from Switzerland and Belgium were among those who willingly and readily offered their professional expertise and assistance to their Armenian counterparts.
The close cooperation established has extended over the time, leading to development and implementation of numerous targeted projects aimed to improve child health in Armenia. In 1990 doctors from Armenia, Switzerland and Belgium joined their efforts to found Arabkir Medical Center, which was providing specialized services in urology, nephrology and surgery. The department of hemodialysis for children, which was established at the Medical Center, is the only one in Armenia. It has been effectively functioning up to the present. In 1991 the first kidney transplantation in Armenia has been realized in the Medical Center. The cooperation has initiated many projects aimed at child health improvement, which have positively impacted on the child health indicators.
To extend and make the cooperation more effective, SEMRA Foundation, VAD Association, NAF Association united and founded Arabkir UCCF, which has established effective cooperation with numerous organizations over the time.
