Child Development

Developmental Pediatrics is focusing on normal and abnormal child development: growth, motor, cognitive, language and social development, taking into consideration great variability of normal child development. This field as subspecialty in general pediatrics is totally new for Armenia. The Developmental Pediatrics Service in ArBeS Health Care Center is unique one in Armenia and provides clinical evaluations and assessments of children of all ages with developmental delays or behavioral disorders. During examination we assess all the major developmental domains: cognitive, language, motor, behavioral, social. Strengths and weaknesses in each domain are described related to the social-environmental-familiar context in developmental profile of the child.
During consultation, we ask parents and children about their problems, concerns and expectations for the examination. This is followed by development of a detailed personal history focusing on medical history, neuro-developmental milestones and behavioral characteristics. Cognitive and motor performance is assessed by standardized assessment tools (Zurich Neuromotor Assessment Battery, Baley Scales of Infant Development II, Griffith Scales, WISC-III, Kaufman-ABC II etc.). Parents may be present during the examination.
