Audiology

Audiology is the branch of otolaryngology, which diagnoses, treats and compensates the hearing disorders. The approaches to hearing disorders differ based on the type of the disorder: conductive hearing loss is generally overcome by drug treatment or surgical intervention, but the sensorineural hearing loss, except for acute cases, is overcome with the help of hearing aids.

Even minor decrease in hearing can be a considerable impediment for the development of speech and other mental processes. To prevent the complications in the stage of child development, early identification of hearing problems, medical treatment and rehabilitation are necessary.

The Audiology service at Arabkir JMC-ICAH carries out a complex of diagnostics and treatment of hearing loss with modern equipment. This is the unique Center in Armenia, where children with  sensorineural hearing loss under 18 are provided with comprehensive follow-up services:

  • Examination of hearing
  • Provision of hearing aids
  • Adjustment and repair in necessary cases
  • Speech therapy for children under 7
  • Psyco-social counselling

Since 2008 the Audiology Service at Arabkir JMC&ICAH, in cooperation with Erebuni Medical Center realizes hearing screening of newborns.

The specialists working at the Audiology Service regularly participate in trainings organized in Armenia and foreign states to share experience and to acquire new knowledge and skills.
The Service also realizes research works on early identification of hearing disorders, corresponding hearing aids and examination of hearing perception.
